Assemblage is a kind of modern sculpture. It involves the joining of various forms or objects. Often objects are joined and assembled for both expressive as well as visual characteristics.
Famous assemblages include those completed by Robert Rauschenberg in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
The readymades of Marcel Duchamp are ordinary manufactured objects that the artist selected and modified, as an antidote to what he called «retinal art» By simply choosing the object (or objects) and repositioning or joining, titling and signing it, the Found object became art.
